Seth M.R Jaipuria School , Gomti Nagar ,organized the Annual Monsoon festival – Varsha Mangal Utsav,on the 26th of July,2014, to invoke the rain Gods. It’s a traditional annual fest organized to mark the monsoon season with a short cultural programme and the Tree Plantation Ceremony.
The programme had as Chief Guest Hon. Dr. C. M Nautiyal, Scientist in charge Radio Carbon laboratory at The Birbal Sahni Institute of Paleobotany, Lucknow. The programme commenced with the rendition of Raag Sur Malhar by the student orchestra, which left the audience spellbound. It was followed by a song ‘Garaje ghata ghan….’ based on Raag Megh Malhar. This raag was first sung in the court of Akbar by Tansen to invite rain, when the kingdom was facing acute famine .
Dr. Nautiyal appreciated the efforts by the school and congratulated the Principal, Mrs. Anju Wal for successfully organizing the event. In his speech , he drew the attention of the audience to the fatal hazards of global warming and the steps one should take towards reducing them.
The event concluded by the Plantation of ‘Kachnar’ saplings which Dr. Nautiyal had provided to the school. The Head Boy , Head Girl, along with the entire Student Council members participated in the ceremony. All classes from III to XII will be planting one sapling per section next week . This is done to create awareness and a sense of responsibility among children , towards the Environment.
The Principal, proposed the Vote of Thanks and lauded the hard work of the students and the staff made the event a great success. Mrs. Wal also thanked the parents for their presence in such a large number and making it common cause with the school.
