Our senior school students took part in an interactive question answer session on Gender Equality with actor Imran Khan on Sunday 22nd November. The event was jointly organised by the Lucknow Expressions Society and UNICEF. Many interesting questions were put up by students, ranging from the role of Bollywood in bridging inequality to the inclusion of members of transgender communities in campaigns geared towards gender equality. Imran, who is also the UNICEF goodwill ambassador, answered the questions with poise and spoke about how this issue pervades every part of the society. Also present were Niloufar Pourzand, the UNICEF chief for UP, and other prominent organizers of the upcoming Lucknow Literature Carnival, which Imran declared open that day. The event was a wonderful opportunity and an enlightening experience for students and teachers alike.,who took the pledge to support, promote, protect and stand up for Gender Equality. During his interaction with 200 students ,he said that it is a culturally accepted opinion that women are inferior to men and stressed upon the need to change such an orthodox mind-set. He emphasised that instead of talking of women’s rights, we must talk of human rights and suggested that the modern generation should take up the initiative of bringing the much needed change in the society.
