Though we watch the proceedings live on TV through static cameras and keep ourselves apprised of our elected members. But being there in the same space as they are, is an experience in itself. A vision of “Let our students see our democracy in action; Let our students become aware of the way our democratic institutions work and see the working of the Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha, a visit for the students was organised by Seth M.R. Jaipuria School.
Under the supervision of Political Science teacher Dr. Preeti Singh and Hindi teacher Dr. Padma Srivastava, the students from the Humanities section of Class XII F were taken for a visit to the Vidhan Sabha on the 21st December, 2017, to give them a firsthand experience of the proceedings that take place in the State Legislative Assembly on that day.
The fascinating part for students was the live action of what they read in their books. The Speaker……….. the address to the Chair………..formal protocol followed by the members…..question hour…….starred and unstarred questions……… the Opposition……….the Chief Minister………..Zero hour……….introduction of a Bill….allotment of time to discuss the Bill….Leader of the Opposition. The students were there for two hours. The students were engrossed in the debate that ensued. It was informative. They found the activity a learning experience as the objective of this visit was to become familiar with working of the assembly of democratic state was fulfilled.
