Under the aegis of the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), Seth M.R. Jaipuria School organised the Zonal round of Chess Competition on 30th April, 2019.
Blaise Pascal rightly said, ‘Chess is the gymnasium of the mind.’ The game of chess is indeed a noble and ancient one. Believed to have its origins in the Indian subcontinent, it has traveled the length and breadth of the globe and found devotees like Magnus Carlsen, Vishwanathan Anand and many more. We are all very proud of ourselves for carrying on this wonderful tradition.
14 schools from the city, with the total number of 105 participants competed in both Zone A and Zone B.The Principal Mrs. Promini Chopra welcomed the teams, the guest teachers and declared the competition open.
The competition was held for both girls and boys under three categories; UNDER 19, UNDER 17 and UNDER 14 . This two day event witnessed some healthy competitiveness, where the main motive was not winning but learning.
Seth M.R. Jaipuria School were declared the winner’s in the UNDER 19 category. The first Runner Up position was bagged by Lucknow Public Collegiate, Sahara Estates.The second Runner Up were Gurukul Academy.
The winning spree for Seth M.R. Jaipuria School did not end soon when the school was also declared the winner in the UNDER 17 category. The first Runner Up position was won by Immaculate Inception Convent followed by Modern Academy at the second position.
In the UNDER 14 category the team from Modern Academy were announced the winner’s. The first Runner Up was Seth M.R. Jaipuria School. The efforts of the team from Spring Dale School, Gomti Nagar, brought the second Runner Up position for their school. Winners were awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze medals for each zone and in every category. Participation certificates were also given to each participant.
